Our suffering is a marketing gimmick


One of the things that really struck me about the pandemic was how quickly television commercials changed and how quickly the big corporations got up signs about how much they care about us. Within two weeks of the lockdown starting in Worcester, every TV commercial was custom-themed for the coronavirus. 80 years from now I will be in a nursing home, everyone I care about will be gone, and someone will ask me what I remember about the pandemic, and I will instinctively say "Low prices and innovative financing at your local Ford dealer. Let's move forward to get through this together" and then they will double my medication or whatever
